KUALA LUMPUR: The slope in Taman Melawati that collapsed due to heavy rain yesterday will be repaired using the soil-nailing technique, said Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
He said the repair would take some time to ensure that the soil on slope was stable.
Soil-nailing involves inserting reinforcing bars made out of reinforced concrete or steel into an unstable slope to stabilise the ground.
Ahmad said a retaining wall would also be built to contain the slope.
"The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will implement the repairs in consultation with the developer.
"This process is a form of permanent treatment and restoration to ensure slope stability and road safety in the future," he said at a press conference after visiting the landslide site at Jalan E6, Taman Melawati.
He added that short-term mitigation measures to be carried out included clearing debris from the landslide, as well in the drains above and below the slope.
"In addition, trees on the slope would be pruned, water flow will be diverted away from the slope, and the landslide area would be covered with a tarp.
"By this evening, we expect nearly all of the collapsed slope area to be covered," he said.
