KUDAT: An elderly woman was found burnt to death after her house was destroyed in a fire in Kampung Pituru here last night.
In the 8pm incident, the victim, Lo Hiong Lan, 76, who lived alone, was found in the living room after the fire was extinguished by fire department personnel.
District Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Ishak Jabas, said they received an emergency call about the fire at 10.10pm.
A team of officers and personnel, along with fire engines, were deployed to the location, 45 km from the fire station.
"The fire involved a two-storey house that was completely destroyed.
"The fire had been extinguished by the villagers before the fire department arrived," he said when contacted today.
Upon arrival, there were still embers, and further extinguishing efforts were made using water tank supplies from the housing area.
"One victim was found burnt in the living room area during the 'overhaul' process and the body handed over to the police for further action.
"The firefighting operation ended completely at 2.25am, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation," he said.
