Remand of two suspects in Sabari murder case extended

ALOR SETAR: The remand of two suspects detained in connection with the case of retired Felcra finance officer Sabari Baharom, 62, who was thrown into the Padang Terap River in Kampung Empa, Jitra, has been extended until Oct 10.

A police spokesperson said that the two suspects, aged 26 and 38, have had their remand extended for another five days to allow for investigations under Section 435 of the Penal Code regarding the malicious destruction by fire of a vehicle.

Sabari was reported missing since Sept 4 from his home in Kampung Mengkuang Tengah, near Kuala Pegang, Baling.

His disappearance was noticed when his son was unable to contact him and suspected that several withdrawals had been made from his father's bank account.

Following this, a police report was made, with the victim's Proton Waja car found burnt in Belantik, near Sik; however, the victim was not located.

After the arrest of two local men on Sept 27, new information revealed by the police indicated that the victim had been thrown into the river with his hands tied and mouth taped shut.

Search operations, however, failed to locate the victim.
