KLUANG: Almost 3,000 Barisan Nasional supporters were out early since 6am in support of their Mahkota candidate Syed Hussein Syed Abdullah.
Johor Umno state liaison secretary Datuk Samsolbari Jamali said the number is expected to increase, with more than 10,000 supporters expected to make their way to support Syed Hussein, who will submit his nomination papers for the Mahkota by-election at Dewan Tunku Ibrahim Ismail, shortly.
Samsolbari said that based on the supporters' mood, they are confident and comfortable that BN's candidate will win the Sept 28 by-election.
"We are focused towards achieving our target and will continue our mission under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi towards the Johor Maju agenda.
"I am optimistic that Syed Hussein, upon winning the Mahkota state assembly seat, will continue working towards this target," he said.
Meanwhile, Puteri Umno Information chief Nursyareeza Abdullah said BN machinery had engaged the people much earlier.
"We organised various programmes at grassroots levels, and based on the feedback, we are confident of a win, with a huge majority.
The Mahkota seat fell vacant after Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, who was Kluang Wanita Umno chief, passed away on Aug 2.
Syed Hussein will face off Perikatan Nasional's Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.
The candidates are expected to submit their nomination papers between 8 and 10am today.
