SUNGAI SIPUT: A fire broke out at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bawong here this afternoon, severely damaging the school's computer lab.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an alert at 12.09pm.
Firefighters from Sungai Siput and Kuala Kangsar, totalling 18 personnel, were dispatched to the scene.
"The fire primarily affected the computer lab on the fourth floor, with about 50 per cent of the facility destroyed. Fortunately, no one was injured or affected," he said.
Firefighters utilised the RECEO (Rescue, Exposures, Containment, Extinguishment, Overhaul) approach, employing a 400-foot hose line and additional water sources from the engine's tank and a hydrant.
The blaze was fully contained by 3.25pm.
The investigation into the fire's cause and the total damage is ongoing.
SMK Bawong, which exclusively serves Orang Asli students, has achieved a milestone as the first secondary school in the Orang Asli Village (KOA) to be equipped with complete facilities.
