PASIR GUDANG: A 50-year-old trailer driver was killed, while 10 others were injured in an accident involving three trailers, three motorcyclists and an MPV at Km26 of the Pasir Gudang Highway, here on Friday (Aug 30).
Two victims sustained severe injuries, while eight others, including the MPV passengers, sustained minor injuries.
Seri Alam district police chief Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the trailer driver crashed into a Scania trailer driver on the far-left lane heading towards the Pasir Gudang at about 5.30pm.
The impact caused the trailer driver to swerve his vehicle into the opposite lane into the oncoming traffic. It came to a stop across the two-lane highway, blocking oncoming traffic heading towards Johor Baru.
Two motorcyclists and the MPV driver, with five passengers, were unable to stop in time and crashed into the trailer.
Seconds later, another trailer driver heading towards Johor Baru, who attempted to avoid the pile-up, jammed on his brakes.
This caused his vehicle to veer off the road to the left lane into traffic heading towards Pasir Gudang.
Sohaimi said another motorcyclist lost control of his machine due to an oil spill on the road. He fell off his machine and sustained injuries. All the injured were rushed to the Sultan Ismail Hospital.
The case is being investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. The accident caused a two-hour-long congestion.
