KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will be organising a programme to strengthen accounting and auditing practices to combat financial crimes, corruption and abuse of power.
The anti-corruption initiative will take place on Wednesday (Aug 14), and is spearheaded by MACC's Financial Analysis Division.
It involves several government and professional bodies including the National Audit Department, the Accountant General's Department, the Inland Revenue Board, and the Companies Commission of Malaysia.
Also involved are the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, Universiti Teknologi MARA and Multimedia University.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki will launch the programme which will be held at the Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
MACC Financial Analysis Division director Mohd Azwan Ramli said the programme will see officials from MACC, government agencies, professional bodies, and universities share their experience.
Attendees will also share insights and expertise to identify best practices in accounting and auditing to address financial crimes, he said.
"This program will indirectly support the government's goal of implementing the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2024-2028, focusing on the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures, and improving governance, and integrity in the public and private sectors.
"This effort is also in line with the requirements of Article 12 of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) to strengthen accounting and auditing standards."
Others expected to attend the programme are Auditor General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi, Accountant General Nor Yati Ahmad, and Inland Revenue Board CEO Datuk Abu Tariq Jamaluddin among others.
