KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Lee Zii Jia for clinching a bronze medal in the men's singles badminton competition at the Paris Olympics.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Anwar praised Zii Jia's achievement: "Congratulations, Lee Zii Jia! Another impressive performance that brought our country a second bronze medal!"
Zii Jia secured the medal after a thrilling playoff match against India's Lakshya Sen. Despite losing the first game, the World No. 7 made a remarkable comeback, ultimately winning 13-21, 21-16, and 21-11.
With this win, Zii Jia joins the ranks of Malaysian badminton greats, becoming the third Malaysian to earn a podium finish in the men's singles competition, following Datuk Rashid Sidek (bronze at Atlanta 1992) and Datuk Lee Chong Wei (silver at Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016).
