KUALA LUMPUR: The mechanism for adjusting civil servants' salaries will be announced next month, coinciding with the launch of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA).
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa, disclosed this in a parliamentary written reply yesterday.
She said that the announcement would be made during the 19th Civil Service Premier Assembly (MAPPA).
"The Public Service Department will issue a Service Circular regarding the implementation of SSPA, which will explain the relevant mechanisms," she said in response to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (PN-Pagoh), who had inquired about the details of the salary adjustment mechanism, including the feasibility study and the additional resources estimated at RM10 billion to cover the projected increase in operating expenses.
During the Labour Day celebration on May 1, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a more than 13 per cent increase in civil servants' remuneration, one of the highest in Malaysia's history.
This increase will be effective from Dec 1 this year.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, announced that the overall minimum pay for civil servants must exceed RM2,000.
Last year, the government pledged to introduce a new set of guidelines for the civil service salary scheme by the end of this year.
Emphasising the complexity of the process, Anwar said that the salary alignment study, typically conducted every 10 years, required extensive coordination across various government departments.
