KUALA LUMPUR: Nilai University has denied that the two engineering programmes it offers are not accredited.
The university's vice-chancellor Norman Chu said the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) received accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia (EAC) in 2014.
The Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme accreditation was valid until December 2023. The last batch of students for that programme graduated in August 2023.
The accreditation for the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering programme is valid until December 2025 and the final batch of students for that programme will graduate in August.
In a letter to Berita Harian, Chu said the university's management decided to discontinue both programmes in stages and have informed the Education Ministry and EAC.
He was responding to a BH report that the accreditation for six universities' engineering programmes had been revoked.
Chu claimed the report confused readers and stakeholders.
"We want to stress that the accreditation for Nilai University's engineering programmes has never been frozen. Both programmes are accredited by EAC."
EAC is a body entrusted by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) to provide accreditation for engineering degrees offered by institutions of higher education in the country.
Aside from the BEM, four other stakeholders are part of the EAC including the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Malaysian Qualifications Agency, Public Service Department and industry players.
