PASIR MAS: Despite her physical disability on her right hand, 27-year-old Siti Hasnidawati Hamzah devotes herself wholeheartedly to caring for her ailing mother-in-law.
She has dedicated herself to looking after her bedridden mother-in-law, Siti Rokiah Ibrahim, 50, who is battling advanced breast cancer.
"Umi was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, and her condition has deteriorated to the point where she has been confined to her bed for the past three months," she said.
"My husband and I used to work outside Kelantan, but we decided to return to our village to take care of our aging and ailing parents. My husband is an only child."
Every day, Siti Hasnidawati ensures her mother-in-law is well-fed and comfortable.
"Before my husband and father-in-law, Rosli Hassan, 51, leave for work, they help bathe umi because I can't manage it alone," she said.
She spoke of her mother-in-law's loving nature and how she always tried not to burden the family when she was healthy.
"Now that things have changed, umi often feels guilty for being a burden to me," she shared during an interview at their home in Kampung Bukit Perah, Tok Uban.
Siti Hasnidawati recently received a visit from representatives of Thirdforce under Yayasan Raja Shamri (YRS), including Tuan Zaimah Raja Omar, who provided financial assistance and essential items to the family.
Despite her own challenges, she remains determined to support her mother-in-law.
"Umi is my husband's 'heaven', and I am grateful to have a good and responsible husband. Caring for his 'heaven' is my way of showing love and gratitude."
Though she has only one hand, she manages to cook, clean, and care for her 10-month-old daughter, Nur Hanan Zafeera Zukefli.
"I thank God for giving me the strength to handle everything," said Siti Hasnidawati, who also receives RM300 monthly assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
The family lives modestly, relying on her husband's unpredictable income as a labourer.
"Every month, my husband needs to provide RM300 for umi's disposable diapers, excluding medical expenses. But we believe that God will provide and that there will be blessings and job opportunities as we continue to care for umi."
She expressed her deep hope and prayers for her mother-in-law's recovery.
"My husband and I hope to see umi regain her health, and we pray for her healing every day."
