KOTA BARU: Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, one of the six Bersatu elected representatives whose membership was revoked for declaring support for the unity government, said he has received notice of his termination.
Speaking to the New Straits Times, the Gua Musang Member of Parliament said he received the notice, signed by Bersatu's secretary-general, on Wednesday. He added that the notice stated that the party had revoked his membership.
"Although l have received the notice, l will not vacate the seat, as the notice from Bersatu is very vague. The party leadership is also unfair and unprofessional in its dealings with me as a party member who had helped raise the party's image in the 15th General Election," he said.
"Although l have received the notice, l will not vacate the seat as the notice from Bersatu is very vague. The party leadership is also unfair and unprofessional in interacting with me as a party member who has helped raised the party's image through the results of the last 15th general election," he said.
Mohd Azizi said he would leave it to the Speaker to make a fair decision.
"What is clear is that I have never wanted to leave the party, and my support for the Federal government cannot be viewed from the wrong perspective," he added.
On Wednesday, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the party had revoked the memberships of six elected representatives, effective immediately.
He said it issued notices to the six members, initiating their expulsion without delay.
He said pursuant to the directive issued by Bersatu's Supreme Council, which convened on June 7, 2024, and after informing the Perikatan Nasional leadership council, which convened on June 11, immediate notices were given to the six elected representatives who had violated Clause 10.4 of the Bersatu constitution.
Hamzah said the process was in line with the foundation of the party constitution and the country's laws under Article 49(A) of the Federal Constitution and/or under the related state government laws.
Meanwhile, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would also send a letter to the Dewan Rakyat, and the Selangor, and Kelantan state assembly Speakers, "as soon as possible" regarding the status of its "rogue" representatives who shifted allegiance to the unity government.
Last year, six Bersatu MPs 'went rogue'. Besides Mohd Azizi, the other five are Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang) and Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang).
