KUANTAN: The Housing and Local Government Ministry's recommendation into the probe involving the disposal of rice at a dumpsite area in Temerloh on April 18 is being scrutinised to complete investigations.
Pahang Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) director Sharudin Hamid said the investigation papers were previously referred to the ministry's legal division for review.
"The legal division had made several recommendations on the investigation papers for us (Pahang SWCorp) to look into and clarify it before re-submitting it. We are in the final stages of providing the required additional information.
"We will complete the recommendations raised by the ministry at the earliest and re-submit the investigation papers next week. The ministry's legal division will go through the documents before submitting it to the Attorney-General's Chambers for further action," he said when contacted today.
Sharudin said those responsible for illegally dumping controlled solid waste can be charged under Section 71(1) of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007.
On April 19, former Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker and deputy home minister Datuk Seri Ismail Mohamed admitted to disposing of rice and other food items after images of the items discarded at an unlicensed garbage disposal site in Kuala Krau, Temerloh went viral on social media.
Ismail, who had served as the Kuala Krau member of parliament, issued a statement claiming he had purchased the food items several years ago with his own money before it expired and become unfit for human consumption.
Last month, deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu was quoted as saying that statements were recorded from between seven and nine individuals to assist investigations.
