8 parking touts who collected parking fees in public areas jailed, fined

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has arrested eight people for collecting parking fees from motorists without permission.

The arrests were part of an operation against parking touts in Jalan Kamunting, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Kemuja, Jalan Sultan, Jalan Beremi and Jalan Kg Pandan.

Seven men and one woman, all locals, were arrested on Sunday and subsequently charged in the DBKL Magistrate's Court.

Three were sentenced to 30 days imprisonment and three others were fined between RM500 and RM1,500, under Section 50(3) of the Road Transport Act for unlawful interference and importuning at a parking place.

In a Facebook post, DBKL said it would continue to monitor hot spots where parking touts operated.

Members of the public are urged to channel any complaints or information to DBKL via the ADU@KL portal
