PUTRAJAYA: Around 30,000 recipients of the Budi Madani individual and Budi Madani Agri-commodity cash aid programmes, will have RM200 deposited into their respective accounts from midnight tonight.
Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said this group comprised individuals and small commodity owners who have been approved to receive cash subsidies under the Budi Madani initiative.
"The Budi Madani programme provides a cash aid of RM200 per month to eligible Malaysians who own private diesel vehicles and small commodity owners to help cover the increased cost of diesel fuel," he said during a press conference after announcing the new market price for unsubsidised diesel at the Finance Ministry, here.
He said some 80 per cent of diesel users will receive enough under the Budi Madani programme to make up the difference between the current diesel price and the new price of RM3.35 per litre.
He added that aid amount was determined upon after studying data in terms of usage as well as data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM).
"The data obtained from DoSM came from surveys in Malaysia involving diesel vehicles, especially in Peninsular Malaysia."
He said the assistance can cover the price rise, as cash assistance was the mechanism chosen based on existing data.
He also urged eligible groups who have yet to sign up for the Budi Madani programme to continue to do so as there are no deadlines to do so.
Earlier, Amir said diesel subsidies for certain groups in Peninsular Malaysia will be discontinued starting midnight today (June 10).
This will put the price for a litre of diesel at about RM3.35 per litre according to the automated pricing mechanism from the current price at about RM2.15.
He said it follows the unsubsidised market price based on the average for May 2024, according to the automatic pricing mechanism formula.
