PUTRAJAYA: The provision of book vouchers worth RM100 to students of institutions of higher learning (IPT) will be implemented in phases, with a special focus on the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL) 2024.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the vouchers would benefit a total of 1.2 million students from all local higher education institutions including polytechnics.
"It (voucher distribution) will be done in stages but specifically within two to three days in conjunction with the international book fair being held currently.
He said this when met after attending the ministry's monthly assembly here, today.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when officiating PBAKL 2024, announced the provision of book vouchers worth RM100 for Year Four students up to tertiary level.
The prime minister said these vouchers could be used from 2pm onwards at the ongoing PBAKL 2024.
Commenting further, Zambry said that the details of the voucher distribution method would be informed by ministry secretary general, Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang by today.
"The secretary-general has already held a meeting with ministry officials and he will announce what approach and steps we will introduce to enable the implementation of the vouchers to be expedited," he said.
Zambry also assured that he will ensure that the vouchers are not misused among students.
"We hope that the old stories will not repeat themselves," he said.
