BATU KAWAN: A man who went missing after hiking and jogging alone at Bukit Hill Top Batu Kawan on Saturday has been found safe.
Muhammad Azfar Ismail, 28, from Taman Mutiara here, was found about 2.36pm today.
Batu Kawan fire and rescue station operations commander Azhar Hamat said locals found the man near the fisherman's jetty behind SMK Batu Kawan.
"The victim is safe, but weak. He has been handed over to paramedics for treatment," he said today.
He said police's drone unit, the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team Malaysia (Storm) and the Fire and Rescue Department's Multi Skill Team (Must) and K9 Unit were roped into the search-and-rescue operation on Sunday.
"The search focused on the hiking trail, the hilltop and the coast."
Azfar's brother reported him missing at 11.59pm on Saturday.
A search-and-rescue mission was mounted, comprising police, the Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force, with the help of locals.
Locals also conducted a 'solat hajat' for Azfar's safe return.
Police then confirmed that Azfar was found safe.
Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Chong Boo Khim said Azfar was found near the Batu Kawan mangrove area.
"He is safe, except for lethargy and minor injuries.
"We thank all agencies and locals involved in the search.
"We advise people to be careful and to take precautionary measures when going for recreational activities to avoid untoward incidents."
Chong said Azfar's brother lodged a report after failing to contact him.
"The victim's brother found his motorcycle parked at the start of the hiking trail."
He said a command centre for the search was activated about 8am on Sunday.
