KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is set to be the filming location for the international film "Sea Gypsies" later this year.
BWG Vision Tech Sdn Bhd film producer Mohamad Aliff Najmi Abdullah said the production of the film is a collaboration between Malaysia and China, made in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
"At least 50 to 60 percent of the filming will take place in Sabah, with planned locations including Semporna, Tawau, Tuaran and Sandakan.
"When completed, the film will be screened in 10,000 theaters in China. It is expected that the audience would be 60 million, presenting a great opportunity to showcase the beauty of Sabah.
"It is also expected to help boost the economic growth of the film industry, including tourism in the state," he said in a statement, which was issued after he paid a courtesy visit to Sabah Yang diPertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at Istana Seri Kinabalu here
Earlier, also paying a courtesy visit to Juhar was the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Kota Kinabalu Yoon Ockchae.
Yoon's delegation aimed at introducing themselves and discussing cooperation to enhance the socioeconomic status of both countries.
