Courier company workers among 7 arrested for stealing parcel contents

AMPANG JAYA: Seven people, including employees of a courier company, have been arrested for stealing parcel contents.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the courier company's security manager lodged a police report last week following complaints from customers who received empty packages.

An internal investigation found that several workers had removed packages from the courier company's warehouse without registering them.

Azam said the company suspected its workers of stealing packages worth RM21,818.

"Between Monday and yesterday, a team from Ampang Jaya police headquarters carried out a series of raids and arrested six men and a woman aged 21 to 51 in the Klang Valley and Nilai, Negeri Sembilan," Azam said in a statement.

"The stolen goods were also seized."

He said one of the male suspects and the woman have been charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building, which is punishable with a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction.

The suspects have also been remanded for four days.

Azam said the case is also being probed under Section 381 of the Penal Code for theft by an employee from their employer, a crime punishable with a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.
