Man charged with injuring, threatening to kill wife [WATCH]

BATU PAHAT: A 33-year-old man pleaded not guilty at the magistrate's court here today to charges of injuring his wife and threatening to kill her.

The accused, Amirul Akhmal Azman, was charged with two offences before Magistrate Nurasidah A. Rahman.

For the first charge, Amirul is accused of intentionally causing grievous injury to his 33-year-old wife, which resulted in a fractured ring finger.

The incident allegedly occurred at their home in Sri Medan at 9.50pm on Jan 2. He was charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of up to seven years in prison and a fine.

The second charge accuses Amirul of criminal intimidation by threatening to kill his wife.

He allegedly said "I'll kill you if there's someone else", at 12.34am on Dec 15 last year at the same location.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence up to seven years, a fine, or both.

According to the police report, Amirul allegedly grabbed his wife's hand in an attempt to seize her mobile phone, causing the injury.

Initial investigations revealed the act stemmed from his suspicions of her involvement with another man.

The victim sought medical treatment and lodged a police report at the Sri Medan police station on Jan 3.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip and prosecuting officer Inspector Ling Shao Shen handled the case, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Razak Sharif.

The prosecution requested a new mention date for the submission of documents following the accused's plea of not guilty.

The court granted bail of RM7,000 for both charges and set Feb 18 for the next mention.
