JOHOR: A 55-year-old man was arrested in the state capital after he allegedly posted offensive and seditious remarks on X, against His Majesty, the King of Malaysia, on Dec 29.
The man, a food stall operator, was arrested at 7pm on Dec 30.
Police seized a phone believed to have been used to access the account and publish the post.
He is expected to be charged at the Magistrate's court, here, today.
Johor police chief, Datuk M.Kumar said the suspect was identified as the alleged account holder -"BitZ @zatocent.
The post has since been deleted and the X account terminated.
The suspect will be charged under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948, which carries a penalty of up to RM5,000, three years imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
Kumar issued a stern warning against social media users inciting matters related to royalty, religion, or race (3R), which could disrupt public order and harmony.
"We view this matter seriously, and actions will be taken under existing laws against any individuals who threatens public safety and unity," he said in a statement today.
