PASIR MAS: Three individuals were fined RM4,000 each after pleading guilty at the magistrate's court here today for entering Malaysia from Thailand using an illegal route on Friday (Jan 3).
The three accused were Rajmidi Sahli, 50, his wife Nursyuhada Abdullah, 29, and Lim Wu Han, 34, who works as a sundry shop assistant.
They pleaded guilty after the charges were read to them before magistrate Mohd Izdham Naim Che Ani.
They were charged under Section 5(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 with entering Malaysia from Thailand by using a boat through the Pengkalan Jambu illegal jetty in Rantau Panjang about 1.30pm on Jan 3.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Syazalia Che Suhaimi while the three were represented by National Legal Aid Foundation (NLAF) lawyer Nabila Mohd Noordin.
Syazalia had earlier requested a sentence commensurate with the crime so that it would be a lesson for the three while Nabila sought a minimum sentence in her appeal.
The court set a fine of RM4,000 for each of the offenders and one month's jail should they fail to settle their fines.
