14-year-old in alleged knife attack on aunt to be charged tomorrow

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 14-year-old girl, arrested for allegedly stabbing her aunt at a flat in Jalan Prai Jaya, Prai, last Friday, is set to be charged tomorrow.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris confirmed that the prosecution had approved the charge.

"Yes, she will be charged at the Bukit Mertajam court tomorrow," he told the NST in a brief text message.

The teenager will face a charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon.

If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine, whipping, or a combination of these penalties.

Earlier today, magistrate Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan approved a three-day remand extension for the suspect, which expired today. The initial remand order was issued last Saturday.

The incident reportedly occurred last Friday morning when a heated argument broke out between the girl and her 35-year-old aunt.

The suspect, who had been staying with her aunt for four days due to family issues, wanted to return home to her mother. However, her aunt prevented her from leaving, leading to a confrontation during which the teenager allegedly stabbed her aunt with a knife.

The victim sustained a stab wound to the left side of her abdomen and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
