KUALA TERENGGANU: A civil servant has been remanded for five days after being suspected of accepting a bribe of RM50,000.
The remand application was made by the Terengganu Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the magistrates court here this morning.
Senior Assistant Registrar Yuhanis Mohd Roslan granted a five-day remand order until Jan 10.
According to sources, the male suspect, aged in his 40s, was arrested around 1pm yesterday while giving a statement at the MACC Terengganu office.
"Initial investigations found that the suspect is believed to have committed the act in 2023 and 2024, by receiving bribes through a transfer to his wife's bank account.
"This was in exchange for supporting and endorsing payment claim documents for five projects at a public university in the state, with a total value of about RM500,000.
"The suspect was arrested together with his wife yesterday, but she was released on bail," said the source.
Meanwhile, state MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
