Remand extended for teen who allegedly stabbed aunt

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The teenage girl, arrested for allegedly stabbing her aunt in a flat at Jalan Prai Jaya, Prai, last Friday has been remanded for another three days to assist in the investigation.

Magistrate Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan allowed the remand extension against the 14-year-old which expired today. The girl was initially remanded for three days last Saturday.

Earlier, the girl, clad in purple lock-up attire, arrived at the court building at 8.20am accompanied by police.

Last Friday, it was reported that a 14-year-old girl had been detained by police for stabbing her aunt at a flat in Jalan Prai Jaya.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris said investigations revealed the suspect had been staying with her 35-year-old aunt for the past four days due to family issues before the incident.

He said while they were at the hall last Friday morning, a verbal exchange ensued between the victim and the suspect as the latter wanted to return home to her mother but was prevented by the aunt. During the ensuing row, the suspect stabbed the victim with a knife.

The victim sustained injuries on the left side of her stomach and is still being treated at the hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon.
