Man sentenced to RM3,800 fine for imitation firearms possession in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: A 35-year-old man was sentenced to a RM3,800 fine, in default six months' jail, after pleading guilty at the magistrate's court here today to possession of imitation firearms.

Magistrate Ahmad Syafiq Aizat imposed the sentence on Hibatul Hakim Remli after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960, which covers the possession, sale, purchase, or distribution of imitation weapons.

Hibatul was charged with committing the offence at a premises in Taman Kenangan Cherang.

According to the facts of the case, police from the Federal Internal Security and Public Order Department (ISPO) Wildlife Crime Bureau/ Special Intelligence and Investigations(WCB/PSK) on Dec 17 conducted a raid at the premise.

During the raid, the team discovered 41 imitation firearms resembling rifles and submachine guns.

Previously, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said police are working to curb the widespread sale of imitation firearms, known as gel-blaster guns, which some criminals misuse for illegal activities. 

These imitation guns are being sold on e-commerce platforms and even on TikTok via live sessions for as low as RM150.

Razarudin said, police last year recorded 148 cases involving the use of these toy guns in crime, the majority of which saw criminals using them to rob their victims.
