JOHOR BARU: Police arrested two men, including a foreigner, after raiding two unlicensed premises that stored RM200,000 worth of contraband beer and liquor at Taman Daya, here, on Sunday (Dec 29).
Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said state marine police raided the premises in an operation codenamed "Op Taring Landai" and seized the contraband liquor.
The suspects, aged 36 and 28, were believed to be members of a smuggling syndicate. They failed to produce valid licences for the items seized.
Police obtained a six-day remand order to facilitate investigations under the Customs Act 1967 for possession of contraband items and the Trade Licensing By-Laws for operating a business without a valid trading licence. The foreigner faces investigation for immigration violation.
Raub said police seized various liquor brands in cans and bottles of varying sizes. The alcohol samples were sent to the Customs Department and Chemistry Department for evaluation.
