MUAR: A Cambodian man, 38, was sentenced to 25 years in prison and 10 strokes of the cane today for repeatedly raping his daughter, 13, and impregnating her.

She is four months' pregnant.

The man pleaded guilty after the charges were read to him by an interpreter before Sessions Court judge Sayani Mohd Nor.

He raped the girl repeatedly at their shared home in Batu Pahat in August between 3am and 4am.

The girl, who complained of stomach pains, was treated at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital, where medical officers found her to be four months' pregnant. They lodged a report.

Police investigations revealed that he had sexually abused his daughter since she was 9, with the latest rapes taking place in August.

The victim said she was raped up to five times a week, but had kept silent about it, until the doctors' probe.

The accused holds a temporary Malaysian identity card (MyKas).

The man's wife has been working in Australia for the past seven years.

The accused, who was not represented during proceedings, apologised to the court and said he was remorseful.

The court mandated that he undergo counselling while in jail, and that he be subject to police supervision for two years after his release, in accordance with the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
