Almost RM100,000 in cosmetics seized near Golok River

TUMPAT: The General Operations Force seized boxes of cosmetic products valued at nearly RM100,000 from a store near the Golok River in Pengkalan Kubor yesterday.

No arrests were made during the raid. Tumpat is the northernmost constituency in Kelantan, bordering Thailand.

GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid confirmed that the store was located near the Kertas illegal jetty close to the Golok riverbank.

"A GOF team from the Eighth Battalion went to the store at about 10.15am and spotted several boxes that had been abandoned there."After checking the boxes, they found various types of cosmetic products worth RM92,100 inside.

"The products were believed to have been smuggled from Thailand for local distribution," he added.

In another incident, he said the GOF arrested a Thai woman and a local man for possession of junk food worth RM24,000 in Pasir Mas yesterday.

He added that the two, aged 40 and 43, were travelling in a car when they were arrested at Jalan Pohon Tanjung.

"The car was passing the route when it was stopped by GOF personnel for inspection at about 8.15am.

"After checking inside the car, the GOF personnel discovered various types of Thai junk food. They then detained the couple," he added.

Worn out and damaged border fences are a major factor enabling illegal crossings and the smuggling activities along the Malaysia-Thailand border.

Although some sections of the fences have been replaced, syndicates continue to damage them, requiring the GOF officers to conduct intensive monitoring along the border.
