Interpol still reviewing Malaysia's Red Notice request for Jho Low, says Saifuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Interpol is still reviewing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) application for a Red Notice against fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the MACC submitted the application to police on Aug 23 last year for assistance in securing the notice.

"However, Interpol is still in the process of evaluating the application," Saifuddin said in a written reply to Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar) in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday (Dec 5).

Chong had asked about the government's efforts to locate Jho Low and Datuk Muhammad Adlan Berhan, the son-in-law of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, to assist in MACC investigations.

Saifuddin added that the police are cooperating with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Singaporean authorities, and other international law enforcement agencies to locate Jho Low.

The Home Minister said that the US Department of Justice filed charges against Jho Low in 2018, but an arrest warrant has yet to be executed.

"All leads on his whereabouts are being verified through international cooperation channels," Saifuddin said, adding that the efforts are part of ongoing investigations into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds.
