Preacher PU Azman gets extra 14-month sentence on top of 24 years [WATCH]

KLANG: Celebrity preacher Azman Syah Alias, better known as PU Azman or Cik Man, will serve extra time in jail after he was today sentenced to 14-months after he was convicted of a gross indecency on a teenage boy two years ago.

Azman Syah, 43, has been serving a 24-year sentence and given two strokes of the rotan after being found guilty of two sexual assault charges against a boy, who was 17, in 2022.

A prosecutor earlier told the court that the seriousness of the offences and the public interest must be considered.

Today, Magistrate Amirul Asyraf Abd Rasid ordered Azman Syah to serve the 14-months in jail immediately after he pleaded guilty to gross indecency on the victim, 19, at 9.15pm at a house in Jalan Sungai Bertek on June 10.

The charge under Section 377d of the Penal Code carries a maximum two year jail term upon conviction.

In mitigation, lawyer Fahmi Adilah said Azman Syah has been in the Kajang Prison since Sept 27 for the previous conviction.

"His guilty plea is caused by his remorse and he humbly asks, with high hopes, that the court gives him a minimal sentence.

"He is a divorcee and regretted his actions. He promises to the court to be a good citizen. "He apologises to the victim, the government especially the police and this honourable court as he had taken their time throughout the trial."

Deputy public prosecutor Rasyidah Murni Adzmi stressed that Azman Syah, as a celebrity preacher, should not have acted that way to the victim.

"His guilty plea is not a reason to give a discount (on sentence) to the accused.

"A plea for light sentence is not a mitigating factor to be taken lightly by the court. "Instead, the gravity of the offences and public interest should be considered," she said.
