SEREMBAN: A 14-year-old teenager was among two people arrested by the police during Op Khas Samseng Jalanan at Matahari Heights near Senawang early morning on Sunday.
Buletin TV3 reported that, prior to the arrest, the duo performed dangerous stunts including lifting their motorcycles' front tyres off the ground, putting not only their own lives at risk but also endangering other road users.
Negri Sembilan Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat said the police issued 321 summonses following checks on 305 vehicles during the operation along Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1.
"Nineteen motorcycles were seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987," he said.
He added that arrests were made under Sections 42(1) and 108(3)(f) of the RTA 1987, as well as Section 29(1) of the Children's Act.
Another motorcyclist was also detained for using a fake registration number.
Zaki said the operation was carried out following complaints about street racing activities in the area, particularly on weekends.
"We received several complaints from the public who were disturbed by the noise from motorcycle gangs racing and performing dangerous stunts.
"The area is also close to residential housing, and we found that the activity usually starts between midnight and 3am," he said.
He added that most riders came to Senawang from outside Negri Sembilan, with many of them from the Klang Valley.
"They initially came to eat and hang out, but later became excited and began testing their speeds while convoying home.
"They are also thrilled to perform stunts along that route, believing their actions are being watched by onlookers.
"If you look at the nearby eateries, they are packed with people. While not everyone is involved, some come specifically to watch these street racers perform," he said.
