TAWAU: A 70-year-old man has been arrested for insulting Islam in an offensive comment on Facebook.
The man was detained by police at 12.15 am.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said the arrest followed a police report lodged against the man on Tuesday.
Jasmin added that the case is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code for uttering words with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for misuse of network facilities.
"The public is reminded not to ridicule any religion, as it can incite hate, animosity, and disharmony among the people," he said in a statement.
