KLUANG: A motorcyclist was killed, and two others were injured in an accident involving three vehicles, including a trailer, at KM69.5 of the North-South Expressway northbound near Machap at about 7.40am today.
It was the second fatal accident involving a trailer reported in three days, following an incident at Jalan Bukit Tengah, Bukit Mertajam in Penang where a woman was crushed to death by a container.
Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer I KUP Abd Rahim Razali said the 33-year-old rider of a Yamaha MT09 was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries.
He said the driver of a Honda Civic was found trapped in the driver's seat but was successfully extricated by the Fire and Rescue Department's operations unit using specialised equipment.
"The accident involved a 40-tonne Volvo trailer, a Honda Civic, and a Yamaha MT09 motorcycle.
"The Health Ministry's medical team confirmed the motorcyclist's death, and the body was handed over to the police for further action.
"The Volvo trailer driver, a 40-year-old man, escaped unharmed.
"Two adult males aged 25 and 26, who were in the Honda Civic, sustained injuries and were sent to the hospital by the public at the scene," he said in a statement.
Abd Rahim said 12 personnel conducted the rescue operation using two Fire and Rescue Department (FRT) vehicles from the Renggam and Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Stations.
