KUALA LUMPUR: A man in his 30s, armed with a parang, has been arrested after robbing a Pakistani shop worker at a grocery store on Jalan Pokok Machang last Monday.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman confirmed that police also seized evidence from the suspect, including drugs found in his possession.
The suspect was caught while attempting to steal motorcycle components, as indicated by the evidence recovered.
"Checks revealed that the suspect has an extensive criminal history, with 30 prior offences and seven drug-related charges. He is also wanted for breaching police surveillance conditions in Langgar, Alor Star, Kedah," he said in a statement.
The suspect has been remanded for six days, until next Thursday, to aid further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for robbery and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug-related offences.
The robbery was captured in a one-minute CCTV video that went viral on Facebook last Tuesday, showing the suspect in action at the store, where the Pakistani employee was the victim.
