KUALA LUMPUR: A 37-year-old woman wanted in connection with a RM110 million gold investment scam was arrested after returning from Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.
Siti Hajartul Haini Abd Hamid was arrested at the Penang International Airport upon arrival from Dubai.
Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said Siti Hajartul has been remanded to assist with investigations.
Earlier this week, it was reported that over 100 people collectively lost more than RM110 million to a scheme in which 916 gold at below-market prices over the past two months.
Similar to pyramid schemes, investors were lured with enticingly low prices, with some even willing to borrow from relatives, friends and loan sharks.
Previously, police said they were looking for Siti Hajartul.
