GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested the main suspect in yesterday's murder of a Pakistani man in Pulau Tikus here.
State police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad reported that a man and a woman were detained around noon today at a house in Tanjung Tokong, where police also seized a car.
He said following interrogation, the two led police to another house in Tanjung Tokong about 12.55pm.
"In the second raid, police detained a 38-year-old man, believed to be the main suspect in the case.
"We also detained three other men, who are friends of the main suspect, to assist in investigation
"With the arrest of the main suspect, we solved the case in less than 24 hours of the incident," he said in a statement today.
It was reported that a man from Pakistan was killed after being stabbed in Pulau Tikus about 4.54pm yesterday.
The 48-year-old victim died while seeking treatment at a clinic on Jalan Datuk Keramat.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim was involved in a commotion with the main suspect at a shop when he was stabbed with a screwdriver. The suspect fled the scene. The victim's friends rushed him to the clinic.
Following that, police detained eight people, seven men and a woman, through separate operations between 11.30pm and 11.45pm yesterday in Jalan Burma, Pulau Tikus here.
Hamzah said three of the eight were remanded for six days while the other five for three days to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
"We thank the public for their concern in the case.
"We also advise against speculation that could affect the investigation."
