JOHOR BARU: The Immigration Department detained 58 foreigners in a two-day operation targeting business premises suspected of hiring migrants illegally.
Immigration Department director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said on Monday, enforcement officers checked six premises in Iskandar Puteri and inspected 56 people, including Malaysians.
He said 40 foreigners, aged 18 to 53, were detained.
On Tuesday, eight premises were checked and 18 foreigners, aged 22 to 47, were detained, he said.
Rusdi said the foreigners were detained for not having valid travel documents, overstaying or misusing their social visit passes.
He said strict action would be taken against employers and premises owners who illegally hire foreigners.
