MUAR: Two loan sharks pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court today to charges of arson that damaged the homes of three borrowers in Tangkak two weeks ago.
Li Ao Chen, 30, and Goh Poh Liang, 38, admitted to committing arson against three victims' homes at different locations – Taman Tangkak Jaya 4, Taman Tangkak Jaya, and Taman Tiara 2, at 6.07am on Sept 14.
The two were charged under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage, read together with Section 34 for criminal acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention.
Police received reports of the incidents on Sept 14, leading to the arrest of nine men, including the accused.
They were also charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for testing positive for drugs and fined RM1,500 each in the Tangkak magistrate's court last Tuesday.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammad Arif Marzuki led the prosecution. Both accused were unrepresented.
The court has set Oct 3 for the presentation of facts and sentencing.
