KUALA PILAH: A man was brought before the Sessions Court today for allegedly assaulting his wife with a wooden block on Sept 22.
The accused, M Vikneswaran, 36, from Bahau, pleaded guilty to the offence after the charge was read in Tamil before Judge Norma Ismail.
He was accused of committing the act at 9.30am at a house in Taman Sri Mahsan, Bahau.
According to the charge, the accused intentionally caused injury to his 31-year-old wife using a carved elephant wooden block.
The accused is charged under the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using any instrument (Section 324), and also causing hurt to one's spouse (Section 326A).
If found guilty, he could face imprisonment of up to 10 years, or a fine, or whipping, or any combination of two of these punishments.
The case was prosecuted by Prosecuting Officer Assistant Superintendent Rosli Muhamad, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
The accused also informed the court that his wife would be withdrawing the report related to the case.
The court did not grant any bail and set Oct 29 for the next mention of the case.
