SEPANG: A 53-year-old man was arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)  Terminal 2 for operating an illegal car ride service as a tout.

The Selangor Road Transport Department (RTD) on its Facebook page said the suspect was detained by KLIA enforcement officers on Monday afternoon.

Investigations revealed he had offered transport services to three Chinese tourists, using his son's Mercedes-Benz, charging RM100 for a trip from KLIA Terminal 2 to Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), payable upon arrival.

The RTD warned that offenders could face a fine of up to RM50,000, and imprisonment of up to five years if charged and convicted under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (APAD 2010).

Abettors can also be charged under the same Act.

They reminded the public to use authorised transport services and report traffic complaints via aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my or the e-aduan@JPJ app.
