KOTA BARU: Diesel smuggling along the Kelantan-Thailand border via Sungai Golok fell 95 per cent since the government implemented the diesel subsidy rationalisation on June 10.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry state director Azman Ismail said three cases of diesel smuggling were recorded in June — two before and one after the rationalisation.
"Before the government introduced the rationalisation, we recorded 50 cases of diesel smuggling. But between June and last month, we only recorded two to three cases.
"This proves that the government's rationalisation plan is a success."
He said this after launching the Ihsan Rahmah Madani sale here today.
Present was ATH Group director Norlisan Ramzai.
Azman also attributed the drop in diesel smuggling to the good cooperation between border enforcement agencies in Kelantan.
"Border agencies in the state, such as the police and Customs Department, have carried out joint operations with the ministry to curb diesel and other smuggling along our border with Thailand."
On the sale, Azman said it was a government initiative to help the low-income group own a home.
"ATH Group is offering home packages at lower than market price.
"The company is providing three home designs and discounts.
"This shows the private sector is supporting the government's programme."
