SEREMBAN: A man who exited his car after it was involved in an accident at KM258.1 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) near here was killed after he was struck by another vehicle, which skidded just minutes later yesterday.
The victim, 31, who was driving a Perodua Myvi, succumbed to severe injuries to his abdomen and legs and died on the spot in the 5.45am accident.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the victim was waiting for assistance after his car skidded at the time of the accident.
"Investigation showed the man was heading to Batu Pahat from Cyberjaya when his car skidded and crashed into left shoulder guard rails.
"The victim later exited his vehicle and waited on the left side of the road.
"A few minutes later, a Proton Persona, driven by a 36-year-old man, skidded and spun into the left lane, hitting both the car and the driver of the Perodua Myvi," Hatta said in a statement.
He added that the driver of the Proton Persona did not suffer any injuries during the accident.
The body of the victim was sent to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital's forensic department for post-mortem.
Hatta said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving.
He also urged the public with information on the accident to contact investigation officer Inspector Tiew Chuan Jie at 014-966 8399 or the nearest police station to facilitate investigation into the case.
