KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of Dillenia, Seksyen U11, Bukit Bandaraya, Shah Alam were today stunned by the discovery of a decomposed body in a drain.
The woman's body, which was infested with maggots, was clad only in a shirt and underwear.
Shah Alam police chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, said the body was discovered by members of the public around 6.30pm, who then alerted the police.
"The body was found floating in a monsoon drain.
"Preliminary checks showed that the deceased was female but her identity has yet to be ascertained," he said in a statement tonight.
He said checks on the body by the Selangor police headquarters' forensic unit did not show any marks of a struggle.
"There were also no obvious wounds which could have caused her death.
"The body has been sent to the Shah Alam Hospital's forensic department for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death."
He said the case has been classified as sudden death.
