IPOH: Perak police are ready to assist in the investigation of the murder of teacher Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi, whose headless body was found in a rubbish bin in Melaka, if there is a request.
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said since the suspects were arrested in Chemor, here, police are prepared to cooperate with their colleagues from other states to facilitate the case.
"So far, the investigation is being carried out by Melaka police, and it all depends on the investigating officer.
"If the investigating officer has any leads in Perak, then we will assist them, but so far we have yet to receive any request," he said.
Azizi said this in a press conference after attending the monthly police assembly at the Perak police contingent headquarters today.
It was reported yesterday that police have identified a decapitated body found last year by the roadside near Kampung Tanjung Rimau Luar, Pulau Sebang, as that of a teacher who had been missing from Johor.
Alor Gajah police chief Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah said intelligence gathered by Melaka and Johor police led to the arrest of a husband and wife couple in Chemor here.
"Investigations of both individuals led to the recovery of a missing body part not far from where the body was discovered. Both suspects have been remanded for seven days from Aug 6 to assist with the murder investigation," he said.
It was reported in June that a husband was searching for his wife, who had been missing since Dec 26 last year.
Mohd Yusof, 35, said his wife had not returned home and had been unreachable.
He filed a police report immediately after Istiqomah's disappearance, and the next day, her car was found parked at a supermarket near Kota Masai, close to their home.
CCTV footage from the supermarket showed a man exiting the vehicle, but the woman was not visible.
