KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded a foreign salesman suspected of offering a RM400 bribe to a City Hall enforcement officer to avoid legal action against his pharmacy business.
Magistrate Shairil Farhana Ruslan issued a four-day remand order until Aug 14, following an application by the MACC this morning (Aug 11).
Sources said the suspect, in his 30s, was detained about 9pm after being brought to the MACC office here by the City Hall enforcement officer.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the pharmacy, located in a two-storey shophouse here, was operating without a licence and was managed by a foreigner.
"During an inspection, the caretaker, a foreigner, failed to present a business licence.
"The suspect allegedly offered RM400 to the enforcement officer in an attempt to avoid legal action."
City MACC director Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Husin, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
