MUAR: Police have detained an ex-convict, released from prison just six months ago, along with his wife, for allegedly dealing drugs around Panchor, Pagoh.
The couple, who have one child, was believed to have used a tactic where customers were told to use their motorcycles as advanced payments if they couldn't afford the drugs.
The 39-year-old suspect, who had just completed a two-year prison sentence in January, is believed to have used this tactic for drug buyers who lacked money, returning the motorcycle to its owner once the payment was made.
However, the couple's activities were detected by the police, leading to a raid that resulted in the seizure of 17km of drugs worth more than RM467,000.
Muar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the raid was conducted at 3pm following a series of raids carried out by the Muar district police headquarters Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division and Panchor police station. The couple was arrested at their home.
Raiz Mukhliz said the raid also saw the police seize 7,614g of heroin, 4,472g of methamphetamine, 5,855g of eramin 5 pills, and 13g of yaba pills.
He said two cars, a Volkswagen and a Honda Accord, were also seized, one of which was registered in the name of the second suspect (the wife), aged 34.
"Additionally, nine motorcycles of various brands, including Yamaha YZF, 125Z, and Y125ZR, were seized, along with jewellery, such as necklaces, rings, and bracelets.
"All the motorcycles are believed to have belonged to customers who could not pay for the drugs they bought from the suspect," he said at a press conference at the Muar district police headquarters here today (aUG 6).
Raiz Mukhliz said urine tests conducted on the couple found both of them positive for methamphetamine.
He said the suspects previously lived in Johor Baru and moved to this district to conduct drug trafficking.
"Both suspects have been remanded until Aug 12."
