KOTA BARU: Two enforcement officers were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last night for soliciting and receiving bribes totalling RM23,000 from two suspected drug addicts.
It is learned that both suspects were policemen attached to the Kota Baru district police station here.
Sources said the first suspect, 43, was arrested at his workplace in Pengkalan Chepa at 10.30pm.
"He was arrested for allegedly asking and accepting RM13,000 from a suspected drug offender in exchange not to charge the latter under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," the sources said.
About 40 minutes later, the MACC picked up the second suspect from the same place.
Sources said the second suspect, 29, was arrested for allegedly accepting RM10,000 from the same suspected drug offender as an inducement not to charge the latter under the same Act.
Kelantan MACC director Rosli Husain, when contacted, confirmed the arrest involving the two enforcement officers.
"We have obtained a four-day remand order from the Sessions Court here today against the two suspects to facilitate investigation into the case," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2019.
