KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group is currently reviewing its global markets that are involved in a recall pertaining to a potential fault with the integrated braking system (IBS) in its vehicles, including Malaysia.
BMW Malaysia told Business Times that the group is holding reviews on the bigger markets first.
"We will be in touch with our customers directly and immediately once we have confirmed the vehicles for Malaysia," said the company.
According to news reports, BMW had initiated a recall involving more than 1.5 million vehicles worldwide due to the braking problem.
The German luxury marque said the brakes in cars affected by the recall continue to work and no reported incidents caused by the issue has been made.
However, it is understood that the faulty IBS could lead to reduced braking power.
The system, which is said to have been made by Continental, is used in a variety of BMW models produced since June 2022.
This included BMW X1, X2 and X5 SUVs, the Mini Cooper and Countryman and the luxury Rolls-Royce Spectre.
The German manufacturer is also expecting lower annual earnings due to the error.
