#SHOWBIZ: HK actor Chun Wong, 76, hospitalised twice after falls

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran Hong Kong actor Chun Wong was hospitalised earlier in March after falling in a hotel room and was later moved to a nursing home, where he receives a monthly HK$4,000 (RM2,221) allowance from the government.

In a recent interview with HK01, Wong revealed that he had suffered another two falls at the nursing home, resulting in two hospitalisations within a month.

Recounting the first incident, the 76-year-old said he needed four stitches to his head after slipping on a plastic bag while getting out of bed and hitting his head on the corner of a wall.

As for the second fall, Wong said that it happened unexpectedly.

Despite being used to going to the toilet on his own, the former TVB star lost his balance and fell to the ground as his limbs were not strong enough to support him.

He sustained a pelvic injury from that fall.

"The pain was unbearable. I thought I had broken my spine, but luckily I didn't. That injury took 10 days to heal. If it were my spine, I'd be saying goodbye already," he said.

Although doctors discovered he had a heart problem during his hospitalisation, Wong remained skeptical about his diagnosis, believing that he will recover and live long.

"People keep telling me I have back or heart problems, yet I'm doing fine. Even if there was something wrong with my body, I believe it will heal on its own," he said.

Wong's resilience has been evident throughout his recovery.

Prior to his recent injuries, the Condor Heroes actor had been actively undergoing treatment and rehabilitation while also maintaining a balanced diet.

As a result, he regained enough strength and no longer relies on a wheelchair.

When asked if he was confident about recovering this time, Wong said "yes" as his doctors were very detail-oriented and meticulous.

He also made it clear that he was afraid of death.

"I'm not scared at all. I'm confident I can make it to my 80s. Once I'm past 80, I'll aim for my 90s. That's my hope!"
